it keeps air moving under the laptop and in most cases shoots some cool air directly into the vents on the under side of your laptop…

for me one fan is perfectly aligned with the center vent, and another fan is halfway on the CPU vent…one of the fans is just blowing on nothing really ..but im sure its doing better cooling for the laptop than if it were just sitting on a desk.

all in all the quality construction is nice, i dont see how it could break, the grommet in the back for th epower cord is wobbly, but if you push it back and forth you can honestly see it wont break, its just got some play in its tolerance where it meets up with the chassis. Its very strong and if it bothers you, take a little bit of silicon caulk on the inside of it…it will last forever.

the fans im assuming are sleeve bearing fans, with an estimate MTBF (mean time before failure) of 30k hours, your looking at 3.9 years of CONSTANT use. so realistically, this item could last you many more years than that.

but..even if the fans died in 2 years…you could replace them instantly…and even upgrade them to higher performance. they are a standard 60mm…can be bought anywhere.

When hooked it up, I checked the temperature difference on the CPU, Graphics Processor, Hard Drive, ETC…. IN EVERY CASE NO CHANGE AT ALL BY USING THIS PRODUCT.

I bought two of these, one for use & one for a backup & I will be returning them. I come to find that this cooler hardly does any cooling at all! They are also very, very poorly made. Don’t buy this thing, its junk! The Antec USB-Powered Notebook Cooler works MUCH better & is better made.

good on hard surfaces, not for laps – S. Michael –
This unit is very effective and quiet if you have the luxury of putting your laptop on a hard flat surface. If you need to rest your machine in your lap or on the arm of a couch or chair, then find another cooling pad, as this one will not meet your needs. The fans are exposed on the bottom of the pad and will stop if anything comes in contact with them. Like others have mentioned, there is exposed wiring on the bottom that could easily get caught on something causing the unit to stop working. I dont get the feeling that this unit will survive the rigors of air/car travel.

ASUS U50Vg-AM1 Thin and Light 15.6-Inch Black Laptop (Windows 7 Home Premium) Review

I have owned 4 laptops over the last 8 years, 1st one was an IBM, last 3 were HP. The last one was an HP dv9000, and for the most part was ok
after i rolled it back too windows xp, so i have no idea how similar win 7 is too vista, 7 seems a little cartoony but i will get used too it.
My old Hp had an amd turion 1.6 GHz dual core processor, 2 gigs of ram, 1mb cache, 120gb hd, and an nvidia geforce go 6150 video card, with no dedicated memory. I am not a hardcore gamer, but do enjoy playing WOW, sim city, madden nfl, fifa, couple 1st person shooters, and my HP was just killing me everything was choppy
and lagged. so far for the few hours that i have been using the asus i am impressed with the performance.

the keyboard is very nice, feels good, without too much noise. the touch pad works and feels great also.
The laptop boots up fast and runs real quiet even when i’m playing WOW, i don’t hear it buzzing or crackling.

not sure how long the battery lasts, but for me that is not a big deal.

The color is a black metallic with blue, i thought it was going too be just a gloss black, but the metallic looks very sharp as far as i care.

wish the screen had a higher resolution but no biggie. and the finger prints, also no big deal for me.

all in all for the price i am very happy with what i got. great warranty, nice performance, looks great and feels like good quality, didn’t have a ton of bloatware like my last HP, which will save you time uninstalling garbage. My desktop has an asus motherboard,(never an issue) and my son owns one of their gaming laptops, for about 8 months now (he pushes it atleast 4-7 hours gaming a day)still holding strong never a crash. customer service is excellent, and unless something major happens in the coming months, from my personal asus experiences i think i will keep buying their laptops. so far no complaints.

Great Laptop annoying display – Tom – Dallas, TX USA
I like this laptop. Decent battery life, good performance and an above average amount of storage space on the harddrive. Consumer reports also ranks this as the #2 best laptop to get right now.

I have three annoyances with this laptop.
Display:
1. This might be personal preference but the display is great for widescreen but the height of the display is not proportional to the width (1366X768). Consequently, the documents will not automatically fit to the screen unless you tweak the document. Additionally, the display almost washes out the screen in white. This might be a quirk or I might be spoiled on my Mac but the brightness and lack of contrast is sort of annoying.
2. The VGA port does not have screws to tightly affix the vga cable to the laptop. I like to use multiple monitors.
Touchpad:
3. The touchpad buttons take a lot of getting used to.
Software:
4. It lacks a full copy of MS Office or Trend Antivirus.

This machine is a great size, and I love the keyboard (including the backlighting). The screen resolution is poor considering the price of this laptop, but that’s not what I was buying it for. I haven’t tried the high def output yet, but I have a feeling it’s great. Battery life is very good. I miss the fingerprint logon, as the facial recognition isn’t nearly as functional, but not a deal-breaker.

Certainly a huge improvement over my old HP, but not as lovely as the Sony I replaced with this Asus. In short, I’d recommend this machine highly.

Having held out to upgrade my home computer until Windows Vista went away, I’m very glad I did. It gave ASUS a chance to move beyond motherboard production into full-blown computer manufacturing. And a good move it was! I’m very happy with this unit. It’s fast; it’s loaded with features (some of which I didn’t even know it had); it’s got a two-year warranty; battery life is double anything I’ve experienced before; and I absolutely love the lighted keyboard.
As for Windows 7, it’s taking me a while to get used to it. XP is still near and dear to my heart and ingrained in my brain. But the quick boot-up, and ASUS’ ability to start up for certain purposes without even using Windows 7, are winning me over.
So far my only complaint is about the glossy black finish — which probably is better than a police technician for collecting fingerprints. I prefer the black matte finish of my Lenovo. I was intending, in fact, to purchase another Lenovo, but the ASUS won me over. I would highly recommend this unit to anyone who needs a real work-horse for the home office.

I was looking for a backpack that can hold a 15.6in laptop at least. I searched for quite a while before I found this. The laptop compartment is roomy, but protected. The second main compartment can hold 4-6 single subject notebooks, but it is difficult to use internal compartments with too many notebooks, folders, binders, etc. It has two outer compartments where I keep the power cable, small external hard-dive, and pouch for mouse, flash drive, small cables, and other odds and ends.

I go back and forth from work to school, and need a bag for organizing and carrying all my school and work related items. I walk a lot on campus too, so a back-pack is most comfortable for me. It does have a water bottle holder that can be hidden away. This is a great bag, comfortable and lots of room, but for my purposes I would like just a little bit more space my various electronics, like hard-drives, cameras, etc. I may need something more content specific, geared towards photographers.

I gave it 4 stars because I would like it a bit bigger, but I realize that it is a sleek bag meant for air travel, and for that it is ideal.

I sought the Internet over for a Checkpoint-Friendly bag to fit my “drive-in theater” laptop…even looked directly on Mobile Edge’s website. Their sizer only goes up to 16″. I was hesitant to purchase anything after looking there. I went to several different websites, even one with a laptop sizer. I didn’t like any of the selections anywhere, and did not want to pay 0 for a bag. I wanted leather, but decided it would get scuffed up going thru security, underneath airplane seats and in overheads. I just measured my laptop’s exterior dimensions and got the info about interior dimensions of this bag, and decided to order it from Amazon! Better price, fast ship, and well, it’s just AMAZON! And, the best of all, I put my Dell Vostro 1720 in the compartment and it fits just fine.

this is just thr right size to fit under seat of plane but not much room for incidentals if you are going over night. A little heavier than I thought it would be but very efficient for security. You just unzip and lay it flat instead of fumbling to pull it out and then put it back in. I am not in to patent leather but it was the only selection for women in the backpacks, but I bought it soley for the eases of going through security and it definately meets that requirement.
